Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois talked to Onda Cero last night and shared some of his thoughts about the controversy surrounding the referees and the club.
“I don’t think there’s some kind of conspiracy or anything like that, I’m not that cynical. There are things you see in other fields that get called, but they don’t get called for us, quite the opposite, they call things against us and not in our favor. The COVID year when we lost the League there were four handballs… Atlético gets one
VAR call, then we get a penalty disallowed that’s a penalty for Sevilla… There are things you say… I don’t understand, they come to explain things to us and the next week they do the opposite,” he said.
Naturally, he was also asked about the Negreira case.
“Everyone is waiting for the sentence about that trial, it is a very serious and big case,” he added.
Courtois also explained why he thinks Mbappé should win the Ballon D’Or.
“It’s gotta be for Mbappé; everyone’s blown away by his speed, by his goals. The Ballon d’Or has to be for the best, not for the one who’s won the most. By that logic, Carvajal should’ve won it two years ago,” he added.
