
The Wisconsin Badgers improved to 2-0 on the season, blowing out the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders 42-10 on Saturday as they overcame a slow first half en route to victory.
Wisconsin started off the game behind, as it punted on its opening drive and allowed a field goal on defense. After jumping out to a 14-3 lead in the second quarter, the Badgers had a rough meltdown, with Danny O’Neil throwing an interception on a botched screen pass deep in Wisconsin territory.
Middle Tennessee was able to capitalize
with a quick touchdown drive, keeping the score at 14-10 going into halftime.
After that, though, it was all Badgers, as Wisconsin put up 28 unanswered points in the second half, with the passing game getting into a rhythm off play-action. Danny O’Neil ultimately threw for 283 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception, while completing 23 of 27 passes.
Tight end Lance Mason was the biggest beneficiary, catching seven passes for 102 yards and a touchdown, while the Badgers spread the ball around, completing passes to nine different pass-catchers.
After the game, head coach Luke Fickell spoke with reporters, pointing to the team’s adversity after some shaky play in the first half.
