After playing three of their first four games in the late afternoon window, your Minnesota Vikings will be back in the early Sunday afternoon window in Week 5 when they face off against the New Orleans Saints. The game will be shown on the FOX family of networks, and thanks to a confusing decision by FOX or the league or whoever is responsible for it. . .well, I’m confused by it, in any case. . .it appears that there will be a significantly smaller number of fans who will be getting this week’s game as their Sunday game that were
originally supposed to.
First off, here’s the map, courtesy of the folks from 506 Sports. The Vikings/Saints game is represented by the green area on the map.
Now, the reason that the green area is so small is because of the size of the red area on the map, which represents the broadcast area for the Chicago at Green Bay game. The Chicago at Green Bay game was, originally, part of the late afternoon window for Week 5, but for whatever reason it got moved to the early afternoon window for this Sunday instead. So, it stands to reason that there are a fairly large number of people who would have gotten the Vikings/Saints game who are now going to be subjected to the Bears/Packers game instead.
Boo. Hiss, even.
On top of that, the folks from FOX have decided to give us the broadcast team of Adam Amin and former Saints quarterback Drew Brees in the booth for Sunday’s broadcast. At least it’s not Jonathan Vilma, I guess, so that’s a little something positive. It’s not much, but it’s something.
But that’s your broadcast map for this Sunday’s game between the Vikings and the Saints. Hopefully, this will be the last time a scheduling change prevents more purple fans from being able to see the team this season.
