The 2026 Missouri distance squad proved to be a resilient and exciting pack. With standout athletes such as Drew Rogers, Monica Wanjiku and Elijah Limo leading the team, the Tigers put together a season filled with personal bests, school records and loads of accomplishments.

Rogers, during the final day of competition, won the men’s mile after winning the 3000m race last year and became the SEC Champ with a time of 4:02.42. Wanjiku led the accomplishments for the women, with the second best Mizzou time in the 3000m race of 8:59.02.
Most Memorable Runners from This Season
Drew Rogers
Few athletes embodied Missouri’s season quite like Rogers.
Throughout the indoor campaign, Rogers consistently delivered when it mattered most. From record-breaking performances to his SEC championship victory in the mile, he proved himself not only as a talented runner but also as a competitive and confident athlete.
“[Drew], you know, he just grew,” Anderson said. “And the biggest thing that I saw is also a shift in his mentality. I hope I can win too, I’m going to win, and I think the biggest thing is that his own belief in himself is so high that if he’s anywhere near the finish with a lead group, he’s going to win, and then that’s what we’ve seen over the 3000 meters.”
Monica Wanjiku
Wanjiku’s indoor season was nothing short of remarkable.
Fresh off an impressive cross-country campaign, Wanjiku carried that momentum onto the track. In her first appearance at the Hearnes Center, she stunned the crowd with a 3000-meter performance that ranked as the fourth-fastest time in program history.
Her success did not stop there. Wanjiku continued to raise the bar throughout the season, ultimately recording the second-best 5000-meter race in Mizzou history.
“Monica is a very special talent,” assistant distance coach Tanner Anderson said. “She’s just so even in her personality and how she approaches races, she’s also just very joyful, very appreciative person, and so for her, she has just a lot of belief in herself, similar to Drew and she just knows that she can go out and do that, and when you put someone like that on a race line that has that much belief in themselves, they’re never going to quit.”
Looking Ahead
Although the indoor season is nearing its end, one more opportunity remains for Missouri to shine on the national stage.
Sam Innes will represent the Tigers at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. With the nation’s best athletes gathering for one final indoor showdown, Innes will have the chance to showcase his talent in the weight throw and continue Missouri’s impressive run of performances.
