The Minnesota Vikings may have pulled off the most quietly brilliant offseason in the NFL in 2026. While other teams burned cash on overpriced wideouts, the Vikings scooped up quarterback Kyler Murray for just $1.3 million two months ago and on Thursday, locked in physical wide receiver Jauan Jennings on an $8 million guaranteed deal. On the latest episode of Two Old Bloggers — part of the Vikings 1st & SKOL production — hosts Dave Stefano and Darren Campbell break down every move, debate the ongoing
Vikings GM search, and assess what a low-profile offseason means for J.J. McCarthy’s development heading into training camp.
The Vikings’ Best Value Offseason in Years
Darren Campbell didn’t mince words about the Jennings signing: “Not one person has complained about this signing — and when you look at what he’s produced over the last two years and what the Vikings signed him for, the value for money is undeniable.” Over the past two seasons, Jennings posted 132 catches, 1,615 receiving yards, and 15 touchdowns — comparable numbers to receivers like Romeo Doubs and Michael Pittman Jr., who signed for significantly more. Dave Stefano added that Jennings brings something the Vikings’ receiver room has long lacked: “That ‘I’m gonna beat you up’ mentality. You get in my way, I’m gonna push you onto the ground.” At 6’3″ and 215 pounds, Jennings is a punishing run-blocker and contested-catch specialist who opens up new dimensions for Kevin O’Connell’s offense — including jet motion lead-blocking and wide receiver screens. As for Murray, Campbell called it simply “the best value for money signing by any team during this year’s free agency.”
Key Points from This Episode:
- Jauan Jennings signed for $8M guaranteed (up to $13M in incentives) — comparable cap hit to Jalen Nailor, Romeo Doubs, and Michael Pittman, but with superior recent production
- Kyler Murray signed for just $1.3M in March, with Arizona eating the remainder of his contract — universally regarded as the top value signing of the 2026 offseason and presumed starter
- Vikings GM search has produced seven candidates: Rob Brzezinski, Terrance Gray (Buffalo), Chad Alexander (LAC), R.J. Gillen (SF), John McKay (LAR), Dave Ziegler (TEN), and Nolan Teasley (SEA)
- Dave and Darren favor a candidate with a college scouting background — pointing to Terrance Gray — to address the Vikings’ drafting struggles since 2022
- Rob Brzezinski may be elevated to a President of Football role above the new GM, bridging the gap between Wilf ownership and the front office
- J.J. McCarthy was quietly working on his mechanics earlier this spring under quarterback coach John Beck; multiple national reporters confirmed a legitimate QB competition with Murray heading into camp
- Rookie minicamp featured all nine draft picks including Dominique Orange, who called himself a “nose guard” and is expected to compete for a starting role immediately
- The show honored former Vikings Joe Senser (1980–1984 TE) and Doug Martin (1980–1989 DE), both of whom passed away recently
