FC Köln forward Marius Bülter was happy to see his squad battle during a 4-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal, but acknowledged that the Bavarians were a bit too formidable for the Billy Goats on Wednesday.
“We were brave and didn’t just sit back. We tried to man-mark them and that worked quite well. We forced Bayern into physical duels with long balls forward an that went well for us. We played well, we took the lead and the stadium erupted when we scored. Of course, we all believed in the sensation
then. We kept that feeling going until they made it 3:1, but after that we were deflated. Bayern are simply too good and the two quick goals killed us to a certain extent,” Bülter said (as captured by FCBayern.com).
FC Köln might have learned a lot about itself during that match and even with the loss, should be able to take some of the positives into the Bundesliga this weekend.
Bayern Munich traveled to Cologne for a midweek DFB-Pokal tilt with FC Köln.
Heading into the match, the Bavarians were riding high, but the squad knew that FC Köln would not be an easy out in front of its home crowd. Ultimately, Bayern Munich pulled out a 4-1 victory doing exactly what they have done to every other opponent it has had of late — wear them down and pounce.
