The Los Angeles Rams have finally addressed their need at cornerback, trading with the Tennessee Titans for Roger McCreary. The Rams and Titans agreed to a pick swap of day three choices, essentially meaning
that this trade boils down to Tennessee wanting to get rid of a player who L.A. feels could help them over the rest of the season.
Is McCreary going to prove as an upgrade to Emmanuel Forbes and other Rams corners who have struggled this season?
A second round pick out of Auburn in 2022, McCreary started 17 games as a rookie with the Titans and had one interception that season. However, his playing time diminished in 2023 and again in 2024, which is basically the same as being benched. Especially on a Titans team that has consistently been one of the worst teams in the NFL.
The 5’11, 190 lb McCreary allowed six touchdowns as a rookie, among the most by any player in the league that year. He has allowed 2 touchdowns and a passer rating of 111.6 this season according to Pro-Football-Reference.
But the Rams must feel they have no other choice than to throw another cornerback into the mix and hope that defensive coordinator Chris Shula can get the most out of McCreary while players like Forbes have been weaknesses. Forbes has allowed a passer rating of 151.9, making him arguably the worst starting corner in the NFL in 2025.
The Rams return to the field this week to face a Saints team that hasn’t even decided on a starting quarterback yet. We won’t have to wait long to see McCreary play for the Rams and potentially even get the start.
