Catarina Macario has been one of the brightest stars for the USWNT though she been sidelined in recent years with injuries and setbacks that have kept her off the field. While last year she returned to the national team with 8 goals in 10 matches, she has not played for Chelsea in 2026 due to injury. Expectations for her, and Chelsea, were high this season but things have not gone to plan. Chelsea currently sit in third nine points behind Manchester City in the WSL standings and Macario has not scored
in league play this season.
With her contract set to expire at the end of the year teams are showing interest in the forward. Kathryn Battle reported that Barcelona, Man City, London City, Arsenal, and a move to the NWSL could be in the works for Macario.
Macario has shown that she is a world class player and has been effective for the USWNT as she’s returned from injury. While she has struggled with Chelsea this year, a change of scenery may help her find the form the USA will be looking for ahead of the World Cup in 2027.
