In some corners of the wrestling world, they remain distracted by Roman Reigns and the case of the disappearing dates. But others are still out there doing the important work of refreshing the roster pages on WWE dot com — you know, just in case there’s an indicator there or a roster move or some hint of story direction.
Until this week, former WWE Divas and Women’s Intercontinental champion AJ Lee, and WWE Hall of Famers The Bella Twins were all Raw Superstars. Brie Bella’s Women’s Tag titleholding
partner and former Divas champ Paige had been in the Alumni section going back to before her (somewhat) surprising WrestleMania 42 return.
But as of this morning, all four influential wrestlers are officially “Free Agents” within the WWE system. They join an exclusive club off merch-movers, future main eventers and special attractions.
Lee appears to now be a special attraction-type like Omos, although I don’t think she’s going to get a recurring role in Lucha Libre AAA like the giant has. AJ is just taking some time off, likely to return for a future Rumble, or ‘Mania, or show in her adopted hometown of Chicago.
Nikki Bella is still recovering from the ankle surgery that caused her to miss this year’s WrestleMania in Las Vegas, and her future is probably tied to Brie’s one way or the other. I’m not a regular roster page-watcher myself, but I think the Women’s Tag champs always get a free agent designation since those belts aren’t brand-specific. Point is, I don’t think Brie and Paige’s move to this section means much — although it wouldn’t surprise if all three were ultimately special attraction-types themselves.
What do you make of these women beingmade kayfabe Free Agents, Cagesiders?
