Indiana and Mike Shanahan, the program’s second year offensive coordinator, have agreed to terms on a 3-year contract extension, according to reporting from Michael Niziolek from the Bloomington Herald-Times.
The Hoosiers have now moved to extend both their offensive and defensive coordinators, with Bryant Haines inking a new contract days ago. Indiana sits at No. 1 nationally in both major polls, owns the No. 1-seed in the College Football Playoff and is the reigning Big Ten champion.
Shanahan, who calls plays, followed head coach Curt Cignetti to Indiana after working under him in the same position at James Madison. He also coaches Indiana’s wide receivers, one of the Hoosiers’ top position groups in 2024 and 2025 with breakout stars like Omar Cooper Jr. and Charlie Becker, with Elijah Sarratt following from JMU.
As of this writing, Indiana ranks in at 3rd nationally in total offense with 6,146 yards, 7th in yards per play with 7.09 and second in total touchdowns with 67. Fernando Mendoza, the Hoosiers’ starting quarterback, was named the winner of the 2025 Heisman Trophy with 2,980 passing yards, 33 passing touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
