As with many Champions League matches, there was some tomfoolery in the streets on the eve of the game.
Last night, Real Madrid’s team hotel was the subject of some potential disruptions as a few alleged Bayern Munich fans lit fireworks outside of the building. Spanish outlet El Chiringuito TV captured the video, which is below:
Sport1 journalists Johannes Behm and Stefan Kumberger captured more detail on what happened:
Some Bayern Munich fans were determined to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to give their club the best possible starting position for the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid. On Tuesday night, fireworks were set off near the Real Madrid team’s hotel in Munich – presumably to disturb their sleep.
The fireworks originated from the direction of the Olympic Park, which is directly adjacent to Real Madrid’s team hotel, the Leonardo Royal Hotel. This gave the troublemakers a chance to escape quickly. Footage also shows hotel security personnel rushing towards the fireworks, apparently without success.
It’s doubtful, however, that the Bayern Munich fans’ actions were successful and that the Real Madrid stars were deprived of sleep. Because the four-star hotel is located on the sometimes busy Moosacher Straße, the rooms have soundproof windows with multiple panes of glass. Furthermore, the players are housed in a rear wing of the building.
As previously stated, this kind of thing has — unfortunately — become par for the course. Bayern Munich has been subject to this kind of thing several times before as well.
