With their loss to Everton in the Women’s Super League last weekend, the dream of a truly unbeaten season for Chelsea Women has come to an end. It might be the “punch” we need to get back on the winning track as we host Italian outfit AS Roma at Stamford Bridge on a night of continental football.

Chelsea team news: Much has been said about the Blues’ loss to Everton. As out of place as it might have been given the volume of chances Chelsea created against the Toffees at Kingsmeadow, there were several matches in our first season under Sonia Bompastor where we hang onto the win by a thread. We didn’t even get to do that last Sunday.
To put this bitter loss behind us, Bompastor won’t be able to count on Erin Cuthbert and Nathalie Björn. However Guro Reiten, who’s been on parental leave for a few weeks, might be fit to feature today.
AS Roma team news: Over the summer transfer window the Giallorossi focused on defensive reinforcements. They brought in centre-back Wini Heatley, a standout in Denmark with Nordsjaelland; and versatile full-back Samantha van Diemen, who impressed during her spell at Glasgow City.
Much like the hosts, Roma have few injury concerns. One of which is veteran defender Katrine Veje, who’s been out of contention since leaving the pitch early in a 1-1 draw versus OH Leuven last month.
Previously: Our only encounter with Roma thus far was in 2023-24 preseason, with the Blues beating the Italian side 3-2 at Kingsmeadow with goals from Guro Reiten, Lauren James and Aggie Beever-Jones.
