The NWSL coaching carousel continues, and now with the Portland Thorns.
Today, the club announced that they have agreed to part ways with Head Coach Rob Gale.
After leading the club to the semifinals and
third in the NWSL table, he will be departing the club. Also departing the club is First Assistant Coach Adam Day.
Gale was named interim coach in the early stages of the 2023 season and took over for Mike Norris. Later in 2023 season, he became the permanent head coach. He led the team to a record of 28-21-10. In both seasons, Gale lead the Portland Thorns to consecutive playoff appearances.
“We are grateful to Rob for his dedication to the Thorns and the positive influence he has had on our players and staff,” said Thorns General Manager Jeff Agoos. “We thank Rob for his contributions and wish him the best in his next endeavor.”
Assistant Coach Sarah Lowdon will serve as interim head coach. She previously held the same role with Houston Dash.
A comprehensive search for the next permanent head coach will begin immediately.
