While Game #1 of today’s doubleheader didn’t end in Milwaukee’s favor, the Brewers can still end the day with a 2-1 series lead.
Pitching tonight for the Crew is veteran righty Brandon Woodruff. Woodruff has been great this season since returning from a shoulder injury that sidelined him for all of 2024 and the first couple months of 2025. He’s made nine appearances this season, allowing just nine runs with 49 strikeouts over 39 1/3 innings. Milwaukee has won every game this season that Woody has started.
Chicago will tab Jameson Taillon, who hasn’t pitched since June due to a calf injury. On the season, Taillon is 7-6 with a 4.44 ERA and 74 strikeouts over 95 1/3 innings. He’s faced the Brewers twice this season, allowing seven total runs over ten innings pitched.
Today’s lineup looks pretty standard, albeit with one glaring change. Sal Frelick, who’s been playing through a meniscus injury and recently returned from a hamstring strain that sent him to the IL, is playing center field today. Both Blake Perkins and Brandon Lockridge are on the bench.
Interesting call from Pat Murphy; the Brewers might be better off (at least defensively) with Perkins in center while giving one of Yelich/Contreras/Frelick the day off — especially because they’d still be available to pinch hit in a close game. Still, the reigning Manager of the Year obviously gets the benefit of the doubt.
Caleb Durbin is hitting second again in favor of Isaac Collins. Contreras is DH’ing tonight, with Danny Jansen behind the plate and hitting eighth.
The game will be televised on FanDuel Sports Wisconsin, FOX 6 in Milwaukee, and other local over-the-air stations across Wisconsin (more details here). As always, the radio broadcast will be available on the Brewers Radio Network. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. CT.
