Tom Bischof is one of the most controversial topics for fans this year. The Hoffenhem talent was signed for a bargain this past summer but has been unter-utilized since joining the Bavarian giants. That has changed though in recent weeks as Bischof has been recently deployed at left-back under Vincent Kompany, a role in which he has surprisingly excelled in.
Bischof has emerged as a potential favorite for the left-back position at the moment with Alphonso Davies struggling to get consistent time on the pitch,
and Bischof has taken full advantage of the opportunity with some strong performances. While the transition from a midfielder to full-back isn’t something entirely new to Bayern Munich or the sport, what is miraculous about this situation is Bischof’s knack for goal, especially at range.
According to Opta Franz, Tom Bischof has now scored six of his seven Bundesliga goals from outside the box. Since the start of the 24/25 season, only Harry Kane has scored more Bundesliga goals from outside the box than Bischof. When you take into account the Goals per minute rate, it really shows just how effective Bischof is from range.
With stats like this, it really makes you wonder why it has taken Vincent Kompany so long to integrate such a top young talent into this squad. While there are so many options at Kompany’s disposal, fans have been shouting from the rooftops to get Bischof some serious playtime and it seems like those prayers might finally be answered.
With Kompany finally leaning on the young German it seems like it might just be a matter of time until we see him under Julian Nagelsmann with the senior squad at the World Cup this summer.
