inside RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.Della Maddalena opened the fight with pressure, inching Prates towards the fence. Prates aimed to establish his jab and kick the lead leg, while “JDM” hunted the body and tried to build combinations. Della Maddalena landed a few low kicks of his own when Prates began to press forward. Midway through the round, Prates was landing the better
punches, and he ripped a body kick as well. Della Maddalena was in it though, pressing the Brazilian with a nice combo along the fence. Prates carried his hands dangerously low, but his timing was on point as he stepped into a knee up the middle. Another knee scored for Prates, prompting an easy double leg takedown from the Australian near the bell.
It was a strong opener from “The Nightmare.”
“JDM” started the second well, kicking the lead leg and landing upstairs. Prates checked the chin with another beautiful step knee in return. Della Maddalena scored another takedown along the fence but fell off almost immediately. Prates found the mark with another knee, an elbow, and some combinations. Della Maddalena found a heavy uppercut with Prates’ back to the fence. Prates put his own back to the fence — Anderson Silva style! — and then badly hurt Della Maddalena with a knee. As the Brazilian tried to build towards a finish, Della Maddalena fired back and forced his opponent off. Another low kick landed, hobbling the former champion. Prates really began abusing Della Maddalena’s high guard with knees and elbows, then he floored “JDM” with a low kick at the bell.
Jack Della Maddalena limped back to his corner in a real bad way after 10 minutes.
Della Maddalena switched Orthodox to start round three. Prates’ hands and knees were on fire, and Della Maddalena was bleeding. After stuffing a shot, Prates ripped a vicious body kick. Della Maddalena was turned into a punching bag, as Prates dropped him with body a high kick and step-in elbow. After flooring “JDM” with another low kick, Prates followed him to the canvas and hammered away with massive elbows to force the stoppage.
Is this the best Carlos Prates has ever looked? The Brazilian was firing on all cylinders from the first bell, breaking down the former champion with a wide array of calf kicks, crisp boxing, incredible knees, and smashing elbows. Jack Della Madddalena is tough as nails, but he simply couldn’t compete with the amount of firepower coming his way.
With three wildly impressive knockouts in a row, what’s next for “The Nightmare?”
Result: Prates defeats Della Maddalena via third-round knockout
