With the NFL Draft approaching at the end of next month, I asked the following question at the beginning of the week:
Do you believe that our Dolphins should for sure or at least consider trading out of the 11th overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft? If you are against trading out of the 11th spot, why? If you are all for it or at least open to trading down from the 11th overall spot, how far down would you find acceptable for the team to trade down, and what would you potentially want back in return
from the other team?
Below are some of your thoughts and answers-
Mikeyuww would like to trade back this year to gain an additional first-round pick next year, when the draft will feature a much deeper and better quarterback pool.
I would love to see the Dolphins trading back to acquire a 1st round pick in ’27. I am assuming we don’t pick up Willis and would like to have extra help to helpfully acquire the qb of the future next year. I think they will definitely have a top 10 pick next year if not top 5 and the extra first may help us get the QB of the future. If nothing else next year seems like a deeper class. Since it is a rebuild, start planning on how to get a top QB next year.
coach k 13 says to trade down because we have a LOT of holes to fill.
I would only trade down, we need all the pics we can get as we have so many needs, the only position I don’t think we need is RB imo.
Pod of Dolphins is in favor of keeping some homegrown talent in South Florida.
If T.Rex is there at the 11 spot the Fins should be very happy at that point.
VS777 is in favor of trading down from more than just the first round, given that we are likely going into a 2 to 3 year rebuild…again…
Agree if any of those targets are available we take them. But as others have said we have no idea how the board will fall. Id rather not take a QB in first 3 rounds UNLESS they are really convicted. Take a chance on someone later perhaps or bring in a Vet for a year. I think its more likely at 43 to trade back for a later 2nd (upper 50s plus a later 3rd late 80s- still a lot of highly competitive player s should be available there) AND since we have multiple 3rds all in that area already, I can see trading one of those for an early 4th (100 ish +/-) and possibly a late 4th. which in effect gives us an extra 2 draft picks (one just outside of top 100 and 1 extra say the around 120 +/-or so). Sucks having so many needs. Definitely a 2-3 year rebuild.
Xpensive_Wino says if the value is there, pull the trigger.
If the deal is right, they have to trade back and stock pile picks. Hopefully, someone within five picks is madly in love with whoever is there at 11. I would only do the deal if they get real value in return (this draft and/or next). Rome will not be built in a day. If I’m Sullivan, I look to trade to back with every pick I have and turn every single pick into multiple picks.
The Earl says to do it unless there is a likely future star sitting there at 11.
If the situation is right, do it. Just don’t move away from blue chip talent to do it.
JKBMia believes that the talent likely available at 11 is something the team should not pass up.
I think that we’re only going to be presented with the opportunity to trade back if there is a significant talent available at 11.
I would rather us add that significant talent to our team if that’s the case.
You’re not going to get a guaranteed difference maker much farther than 15 in this draft.
Obviously some later drafted guys will play well too but I think there’s a significant drop off after the “blue chip” type players right at that area.
We really need to add one of those players to our team with that first pick.
finfanfromsiam says don’t move!
Stay put and get BPA.
TheRoo1 believes that moving up or down in the draft should be based on where you are as a team at this point in time.
I kind of see trading up or down as being something based off where you are as a team.
If you feel you are a contender, with a solid roster, you are more likely to trade up to get that final piece you believe could help you make that final step.
Likewise, if you are rebuilding, with a lot of holes in your roster to fill, you will tend to trade back in order to get more spots covered.
Obviously, personal likes influence the process, if a particular player is coveted it can change the metric, but by and large, it should be based on where you stand as a team.
And considering the number of holes we have,,,, yeah, trade down.
toscana-jones believes that, given the current state of the team’s roster, trading down makes sense.
Any rebuilding, pardon, foundation building team should just stockpile draft picks, given the random nature of the draft.
But, of course, it takes two to tango, and it remains to be seen if anyone will be interested, and for what price, in pick 11, come draft day.
dedstrk has workshopped the idea of trading back and most likely prefers who might be available at 11.
I like doing mock drafts for fun and when I trade back I usually don’t like the results as much as when I stay at 11. I end up filling more holes but I don’t feel like I get that one player that’s a stud that we need so badly. I guess it depends on what unfolds before us. If Delane, Bain, or Downs is there then I think we need to take them. I have been banging the drum for Styles but that ship has sailed. He won’t be there at 11. Mauigoa will be a consideration but I would consider trading back slightly if possible if that was the scenario.
MiamiItaliano suggests trading back with the hated Jets.
Swap to pick #16 with the Jets and they also give Miami pick #44
PA phinphan says it all depends on who’s still sitting there at 11.
It all comes down to who is available with the pick. Say the Dolphins have five players they love with pick 11, but they are all off the board. Then, I say trade back and get at least another second round pick. However, if one of those five are there, draft him.
FlyerFinFan likes the idea of trading back two spots with the LA Rams unless there’s a top pass rusher still sitting there.
I’ve done some mocks and one trade is with the Rams moving two back for a second. I still get a good player but wouldn’t do it if a top pass rusher falls to them. Just my two cents!
Dolfanjoe believes this is the time to add all the talent you can via the draft.
First off you must have a trade partner. I believe we will have many teams wanting to move up to 11 ! Could even be in our own division. Matters little who it is, Sullivan has to find replacements for so many players it will be impossible to do it all in this draft ! Lots of teams believe they are just a couple of players from getting over the top. We are not one of those teams. Our team is being gutted ! Those that they can get rid of they will. Money is very tight and free agency other than league minimum or close is out of reach. We have a much better chance of finding starters with extra 2nd and 3rd round picks. We need depth everywhere and choosing later round players will be so important. Trading back and having 10 or more picks will help now and in the future. They want to develop there own ! But no team hits on all draft picks. They will be able to raid practice squads all year long. 1200 or more will be unemployed on cutdown day. But now is the time to gather as many picks as possible. If that means trading back twice so be it. Trade down in each round and gather picks not only for this year but for 27 also !
rtantalo believes in playing the numbers game.
In all the mocks, I don’t see a sure thing at 11. And we have so many holes, trading back makes sense. They currently have 5 top 100 picks. If they can turn that into 6 or 7 the odds of hitting increase substantially. A change from Grier who went all in on a maybe (and I’m using maybe generously). They can reshape the team without creating immediate cap issues.
