The Brewers head over to Pittsburgh to begin a three-game weekend series against the Pirates. The Brewers have Quinn Priester on the mound to face off against Johan Oviedo.
Priester’s been one of the most consistent members of the rotation in recent weeks. Since July 11, he has surrendered more than two earned runs on a single occasion when he faced the Mets. In his eight starts during that span, he’s posted a 2.79 ERA. While he’s been effective at limiting run production, it’s come with an odd profile.
He has struggled to tally many strikeouts lately, but he’s still found success by forcing weaker contact and more groundballs.
Oviedo has only pitched 15 innings in the majors this year, pitching to a 3.60 ERA over four starts. He’s reached five innings pitched in two of those outings, striking out 20 batters and walking eight. The Pirates might not push Oviedo deep in this game as his pitch count has remained under 80 pitches in each of his starts.
The Milwaukee lineup starts off with Brice Turang in the leadoff spot, playing second base. The rest of the infield fills out with Caleb Durbin at third base, Joey Ortiz at shortstop, and Andrew Vaughn at first. William Contreras will take his usual spot behind the plate.
Isaac Collins, Jackson Chourio, and Sal Frelick make up the outfield. With Christian Yelich out again, Jake Bauers slots in at designated hitter.
The Brewers made some roster moves before today’s game. Pitcher Nick Mears was placed on the 15-day injured list as he deals with back tightness. That move is retroactive to September 2. Carlos Rodriguez was recalled to take his place on the roster.
First pitch today is at 5:40 p.m. CT on AppleTV and the Brewers Radio Network.
