Thanks to an impressive second place finish in the group table stage of the Champions League, Bayern Munich enjoyed a break from the competition last month as the teams seeded 9th-24th played a two-leg knockout round. Bayern has scored multiple goals in every Champions League match this season, with the 3-1 loss to Arsenal dangling as the lone exception.
Atalanta finished 15th in the group table stage and had to survive a 2-0 loss in the first leg to Borussia Dortmund. Per usual, Dortmund choked away
that lead in the first 45 minutes of the second leg. Atalanta eventually won on a penalty kick in the eighth minute of stoppage time to advance on a 4-3 aggregate scoreline.

Three things to know about Bayern
- Bayern has failed to produce a clean sheet on the road in the Champions League this season, conceding goals to Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, PSV Eindhoven, and Pafos FC.
- Nine different Bayern players have scored in only eight Champions League contests this season.
- This is Bayern’s first competitive match against Atalanta, but AC Milan is the only Serie A club that has a historical winning advantage over Bayern.
Three things to know about Atalanta
- Leading Scorer: Gianluca Scamacca, 12 goals
- Player to watch: Marco Carnesecchi
- Form: WWLDD; 7th place (Serie A)
Prediction
Bayern wins 3-1. Bayern will start with a lot of possession but fail to penetrate Atalanta’s defense. Jonathan Tah will score from a Michael Olise corner kick but Atalanta will answer right back with a free kick goal of their own. Play will turn stagnant before a series of quick passes results in a tap-in for Harry Kane. After both teams make tactical subs, Luis Díaz will lead a counterattack that ends in a goal for Jamal Musiala to give Bayern a comfortable lead heading back to Germany for the second leg.
