Good evening, New York Giants fans! We’ve arrived at the Fiesta Bowl and the College Football Playoffs semi-final, featuring (6) Ole Miss facing off against (10) Miami. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
Football has been chaos this year at both the collegiate and NFL levels, and the semi-final round of the College Football Playoffs is a perfect example of this. Few people predicted Miami taking (1) Ohio State behind the woodshed or Ole Miss beating (3) Georgia, and I don’t think anyone predicted both of those powerhouses falling.
Tonights’ game features two experienced quarterbacks in Miami’s Carson Beck and Trinidad Chambliss at Ole Miss.
From the Giants’ perspective, a great game by Carson Beck could be a boon. Beck was widely considered a potential option for the Giants after Daniel Jones was benched in 2024, but he ultimately returned to school and transferred to Miami. He’s done a good job of rebuilding his draft stock this year and cold be a Day 2 prospect by the time the draft rolls around. The more highly drafted quarterbacks the better for the Giants, and Beck ascending to a fringe first round player could make him a potential trade target at the top of the second round.
Chambliss, on the other hand, is pursuing a waiver to return to school for a sixth season. He transferred from Division II Ferris State to Ole Miss this year and has emerged as a playmaker for the Rebels.
We’ve highlighted each of these teams twice so far, so we won’t go back over the players to watch. Instead, I’d just advise everyone to enjoy the game and take note of whichever players leap off the screen.
That said, it might behoove Giants fans to keep an eye on Miami right tackle Francis Mauigoa, who could replace Jermaine Eluemunor or Greg Van Roten. Likewise, edge defenders Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor could be in play for the Giants if their next defensive coordinator makes a significant change to the scheme.
Use this as your open thread to discuss all of tonight’s action!
