I found this cool graphic, but for some reason Instagram is not uploading, so I created a link through X.
Heartbeat Visuals has seemingly endless amounts of these sort of graphics, not just on sports. But I do prefer these year-by-year comparisons. Since the turn of the century, no team has won more games than the San Antonio Spurs.
In fact, since 2004-2005, they have been the league’s leaders. Hard to remember the Kings were an upper tier team for a couple of years back at the start of the millennium.
The graphic only shows the top 15 teams. It is interesting to note who does not appear. Clippers and Pelicans in the Western Conference and the Hawks, Hornets, Wizards, and Knicks in the Eastern Conference. That’s right, the 2026 NBA Champion New York Knickerbockers have never made the top 15 in games wins over the entire century. Good thing they won their first championship in 53 years, if trends continue it may be a while before they see success again. Meanwhile, if the Spurs stay in tact and healthy, it doesn’t appear there will be a change to that graphic for years to come.
Here was another time lapse involving the Spurs that caught my attention.
It should be obvious, but I hadn’t realized just howe many years George Gervin was the franchise top scorer. It makes sense to see the greatest Spurs — David Robinson, Sean Elliott, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili — rise with such pace. LaMarcus Aldridge, Kawhi Leonard, and Patty Mills also made immediate scoring impacts. At the very last moment, Keldon Johnson pops onto the screen making him the latest player to score 6,000+ points for the Spurs.
Imagine this same graphic in a few more years. Victor Wembanyama already has 4,200+ points in three seasons. He, castle, and Harper are destined to shoot up in franchise standings before too long.
