So, the trade finally happened. After all his success and accolades in the Cream City, Giannis is no longer a member of the Milwaukee Bucks. When Jimmy Haslam said that the draft would be the org’s self-imposed deadline, he certainly wasn’t kidding—they really took this down to the final hours!
Personally, I was extremely worried that Horst had bitten off more than he could chew by leaving it that long, a bidding war wouldn’t eventuate, and the Bucks would get less. But, lo and behold, the Celtics made a legitimate late charge, forcing Miami to throw more assets into the deal than they wanted to (hello, Kasparas Jakučionis!).
The deal ended up totaling the following: Giannis and Bobby Portis to the Heat for the aforementioned Jakučionis, Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., three first-round picks (including tonight’s 13th pick), one pick swap, and one second-round pick. Given the circumstances, I am more than happy with that return. Still, you could argue the Bucks failed in the trade because they didn’t bring back a guaranteed blue-chip prospect (as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was viewed in the Clippers-Thunder blockbuster deal all those years ago). So with that said, I’ll put it to you, Bucks fans: do you approve of the Giannis trade return?
