Jonas Urbig has made it clear that his decision to join Bayern Munich was never about the star names or the prestige of the club. It was about development, competition, and becoming part of a group that could help him reach his potential.
Speaking with the club magazine Säbener 51, Urbig explained why he made the big decision to jump to Bavaria.
“I saw the move as the best opportunity for me to continue developing. With a very good goalkeeping coach, a strong group of goalkeepers, and a great team,
I saw a huge benefit in that. It was not about which big names play here. What mattered to me was becoming part of this group, developing as a player, and helping the team,” Urbig said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
That mentality has been evident since Urbig arrived from FC Köln. Bayern Munich signed him with an eye toward the future, and the goalkeeper has repeatedly emphasized how much he can learn from the experienced players around him, particularly Manuel Neuer and the rest of the goalkeeping group.
Urbig is not trying to rush his development or get caught up in the pressure of eventually succeeding Neuer. Instead, his focus remains on improving every day and making the most of every opportunity.
For a young goalkeeper at Bayern Munich, that mindset could be just as important as his talent. The potential is there. Now, Urbig is focused on turning that potential into something special.
