The Cleveland Browns are kicking off their season on Sunday against a formidable AFC North opponent – The Cincinnati Bengals. While Cincinnati has taken three of the last four meetings, they’re also known for starting the season slowly. That sets the stage for a game that could go either way, but some key factors could lead to a Browns win.
On defense, all eyes will be on the Cleveland secondary, especially cornerbacks Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II. There has been an ongoing rivalry over the years
between the Bengals’ receivers and the Browns’ corners. Cincinnati has one of the top passing offenses in the NFL with the duo of star receivers Ja’marr Chase and Tee Higgins as their biggest weapons. It will be a challenging matchup, but Ward and Newsome will need to compete at a high level and limit the number of explosive plays they give up.
Offensively, David Njoku should be heavily involved in the passing game, given his past success with Joe Flacco during the 2023 season. There is already a lot of chemistry and trust there, so expect Flacco to rely on Njoku often throughout this matchup, especially in critical downs and red-zone situations.
