Your Oregon Ducks soccer team wrapped up their season on Friday night, against the #21 Washington Huskies. The Huskies jumped out ahead pretty quick, scoring a goal about 17 minutes into the match. The Ducks would get a chance to even the score after drawing a penalty kick in the 35th minute, but the UW keeper saved it. Oregon would get another shot just two minutes later, and Ellie Felt would bury it, trying the game at 1-1.
The second half would begin as a very defensive battle, until the 66th minute,
when Savannah Holley would get slapped with a red card, and the Ducks would have to play the rest of the match shorthanded, with just 10 players. And eleven minutes later, the Huskies would take advantage of that and put another goal on the board, taking a 2-1 lead with just under 15 minutes remaining. Oregon would get one more shot on goal to try and tie the match, but it would sail let over the crossbar, and the Ducks would fall 2-1.
A hard fought game with some extra adversity, but the Ducks kept grinding until the end. The season as a whole was an improvement from last year, but after such a hot start to the season, it’s hard not to be a little disappointed with the 2nd half of the year. Hopefully next season shows even more improvement.
As always, ‘Sco Ducks
