The Cleveland Cavaliers have a prime opportunity to get back on track with a win over the ailing Washington Wizards.
Wizards Struggles
The Cavs have struggled recently. That’s for sure. But their issues pale in comparison
to the season the Wizards are having.
Washington is 3-19, only behind the New Orleans Pelicans for the worst record in basketball. Don’t get it mistaken, however. The Wizards are last in net rating, last in defense, and have the worst scoring margin in league history.
Yeah, it’s bad.
There really isn’t an aspect of the game that Washington should have as an advantage over the Cavaliers. That said, crazier things have happened — and the Cavs haven’t given us their best basketball as of late.
To their credit, the Wizards have a few younger prospects that I personally enjoy. Alex Sarr is intriguing given his size and offensive skills, Kyshawn George has tons of raw potential, and I’ve always been a Bub Carrington believer. I just don’t think any of them are ready to play competitive basketball right now, certainly not on the same team.

De’Andre Hunter
Hunter had previously been playing some of the most complete basketball of his career. He was rebounding, scoring and creating plays for others. That’s disappeared recently.
Over his last five games, Hunter is averaging 9.6 points, 3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 turnovers on 20% three-point shooting. He’s been a negative on defense and his missed three-pointers feel like backbreakers.
It would be great for Hunter to find some momentum against the worst defense in the NBA.
Can the Cavs wake up?
Effort has become a theme this season. It’s an old cliche, but it still rings true. Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. Right now, the Cavs aren’t working hard enough.
I’m not the only one who thinks this. The Cavs themselves, from players to coaching staff, have consistently called for better effort on a nightly basis.
With nearly a full week of rest since their last game, let’s hope the Cavs enter Washington with enthusiasm. It’s time to bring the joy back.
