Before leaving on a jet plane back to God’s country yesterday Kirby Smart took a few moments to address the assembled media following his team’s 41-21 shellacking of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Full
video is below, but a few highlights included:
- Some kind words for Jeff Lebby’s Mississippi State team, a group most of us were genuinworried about before this one, I’d argue with good reason. As Coach Smart points out, they’ve fought hard against some good football teams and taken them the distance. The fact that Georgia cruised in this one was not a foregone conclusion but instead a pleasant surprise.
- Some kind words about Ms. Kim Allen, a UGA employee who meant a lot to folks in the athletic office and to whom the team’s effort was dedicated following her recent passing.
- The teamwork and commitment that’s helped the Bulldog run game turn the corner.
- How the game turned during the middle eight, including a shoutout to Mike Bobo for calling a well-timed screen pass. Yes, you read that right.
- A brief aside on that sequence in which the coaches ran the punt team on, then off, the field before half. Special thanks to Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman.
- A heartfelt shoutout to former Georgia/current Mississippi State receiver Anthony Evans. If you want to know why players work their tails off for Kirby Smart, this brief discussion at around the 10:00 mark will help explain it.
As always special thanks to our friends at and Bulldawg Illustrated for the use of their video. Be sure to head over there and check out their tremendous breadth and depth of UGA coverage. Until later…
Go ‘‘Dawgs!!!
