Just about every NBA team needs a nice supply of hand sanitizer right about not.
VJ Edgecombe, Quentin Grimes, and Dominick Barlow are the latest to succumb to the illness spreading around the Sixers, all
three will miss their upcoming contest against the Brooklyn Nets.
The latter two were on the initial report. Edgecombe popped up a bit later, being added on gameday. In what is almost certainly related news, the team cancelled their morning shoot around.
They’ll become the third, fourth, and fifth Sixers to miss a game this month due to illness. Tyrese Maxey was the first, missing two before Joel Embiid also missed two with an illness and right knee injury management.
At his pregame press conference, head coach Nick Nurse described Maxey’s illness as more of an isolated case, but it has since spread around the team. If there’s any positive, it’s that Joel Embiid is still probable for the Nets matchup.
The Sixers are far from the only team dealing with this at the moment. In fact, the Nets added Terrence Mann to the injury report on gameday as well with an illness, though he is still listed as probable.
This will be the fourth game Edgecombe misses of his young career, he missed his first three back in late November with a calf strain. This will only be the second game Grimes misses, and the first Barlow misses since he missed nine early in the year with an elbow contusion.
Ironically, this projects to be a rare game where the Sixers have their original “Big 3” available. If Embiid is able to go it’ll be the third game the three of him, Maxey, and Paul George all play in the same game.
