Carson Beck had a bounce-back game against Syracuse with zero turnovers and two touchdowns (one passing, one receiving). The Miami Hurricanes are currently 7-2 with losses to Louisville (who just lost
to Cal) and SMU (losses to Baylor, TCU and Wake Forest).
Dannon Shawson: Are “We Beck?” I mean BACK*?!
Dear JD: I wouldn’t overreact to one win over a bottom-30 ‘Cuse team. Syracuse had 2-3 interceptions that they dropped and a handful of really poorly missed tackles that could’ve led to TFL’s or no gain. While it was nice to see Beck take care of the football, he actually didn’t and good timing met a lack of preparation and talent on the SU side (The definition of “luck” is timing + preparation).
Let’s see how Beck does against a 3-3-5 defensive look from NCSU which is also not very good but is backed by a competent offense unlike the Orange.
CanesFanSight: I’m sorry that I missed on Trader, Lyle and Lofton this off-season. I will try harder to make sure my hype posts are more tame in the future.
Dear JD: I don’t care if the trio is Mary, Joseph and Larry- spring practice isn’t the time to hype players. Most of it is ‘thud’ aka horrible tackling form where the coaches blow a quick whistle and no one is taken to the ground. If you’re an offensive player and know that you can’t be tackled low, and you can’t be brought down, you have unrealistic confidence during team periods.
So far this season Trader has hardly played and when he has he’s now logged two drive killing drops in limited duty. Lyle is averaging a measly 3.1 yards per carry on the season. Lofton has averaged 7.9 yards per catch and has zero rushing attempts in 2025. The hype machine’s wheels have fallen off.
YouTubeTV: Are you REALLY sure you want to watch NC State at Miami on Saturday?
Dear JD: Yes, we would like ESPN restored to YouTubeTV and the ability to watch the game at 3:30 on ESPN. I’ve invested an entire off-season and now 2/3 of a season in this team (as well as 40+ years) and need to see every minute of mediocre offensive action from the ‘Canes. Bring it on YouTube and ESPN, we need to say we back about our streaming services, too!
