Joe Pyfer is known for his knockout power, but he showed off his submission chops when things went to the canvas in the second round of his UFC 320 fight against Abus Magomedov.
Magomedov had some strong moments in the first round, nearly catching Pyfer with a kimura and scissor choke submission chain. But Pyfer turned things around in the second, catching Magomedov with a power punch and following him to the mat for some grappling.
The commentary team agreed that Pyfer should get up and force Magomedov
to slang and bang, but Pyfer worked for a arm triangle up against the cage and then transitioned to the back, slapping a rear-naked choke on his Russian opponent at 1:48.
The win is Pyfer’s third in a row and moves him to 6-1 in the UFC. This loss snaps a three fight win streak for Abus Magomedov, who is now 4-3 with the promotion.
