Louisville utilized an absurd start to the second half to roll to a 107-57 victory over Morehead State Saturday afternoon inside the KFC Yum Center.
Leading 46-33 at the break, the Cardinals started the second half on a 40-2 run, at one point scoring 33 consecutive points. U of L held their guests to just one made shot on their first 21 field goal attempts of the second frame.
Seven Louisville pkayers scored in double figures, a contingent led by freshman Obinna Ekezie, who came off the bench to notch
20 points, 13 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
Alvaro Folguieras (10 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds), Flory Bidunga (10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks), Adrian Wooley (12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals), Karter Knox (15 points, 6 rebounds), Seth Trimble (11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals) and Isaac Ellis (10 points, 6 rebounds) all stuffed the stat sheet as well.
As a team, Louisville shot 37-of-69 from the field, good for 54 percent. All 10 players who saw the court scored. That included the first 5 points or freshman Bo Zhang’s college career, and a late bucket from walk-on Will Hanke that pushed the Cards past the 100-point mark.
Morehead is probably the worst team on Louisville’s schedule this season, and it was nice to see the Cardinals take care of business in the appropriate manner (it was also good for their computer numbers to win this game by 50 and not, say, 18).
The competition takes a dramatic step up in eight days when this team travels to Memphis State. The Tigers stunned No. 18 Iowa State in their opener and will be tested by VCU (today) and Vanderbilt (Tuesday) before hosting the Cards.
Get ready for some brick rolling this week.
