The Colorado Rockies will look to regroup and recover from the battering they faced on Friday at the hands of the Chicago Cubs. The offense spun things together at times, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a bad outing by the starting pitching and the bullpen.
For the Rockies, they will turn to McCade Brown (0-1, 9.82 ERA) to make his second big league start, and first at Coors Field. His last start against the Pittsburgh Pirates didn’t go as planned as he gave up four runs on five hits over 3 2/3 innings
of work. He struggled with his command, issuing three walks to just two strikeouts. Brown will now have to face a more potent Cubs lineup, meaning he can’t afford to make too many mistakes. He is going to have to dig into his power pitching traits a bit more and work on being aggressive while spotting his pitches better. It’ll be a true test for the young right-hander.
Meanwhile, the Cubs will turn to Javier Assad (0-1, 3.86 ERA). Assad has missed most of the season with an oblique strain, returning just this month to the Cubs roster. He has made three starts, stretching his pitch count as he gets back into form. His last start against the Los Angeles Angels saw him allow just one run on two hits over six innings of work. He hasn’t thrown more than 75 pitches in any of his previous starts this month, but he has only allowed three walks with nine strikeouts.
There is potential for a slight delay due to weather; stay tuned for more info.
