What is the story about?

The Washington Mystics lost to the Atlanta Dream in Game 1 of the 2026 WNBA Quarterfinals, 92-77 on Sunday evening.

Washington came out hot in the first half with a 41-36 lead, holding the Dream to under 29 percent shooting. However, in the third quarter, the Mystics committed 7 turnovers which turned into 14 Dream points. Washington also shot just 20 percent from the field while Atlanta shot 62.5 percent themselves.

Rhyne Howard scored 12 of her 16 points in that period alone, which helped the Dream

prevail in this game and put Washington on the brink of elimination. Allisha Gray led with 17 points to lead all scorers and Dewanna Bonner added 11 points, scoring all of them in that pivotal third quarter.

The Mystics were led by Sonia Citron who scored 15 points overall. Shakira Austin added 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Game 2 of this playoff series is on Wednesday at CareFirst Arena. Last time the Mystics hosted a playoff game, they won a championship in 2019 thanks to Emma Meesseman’s heroics.
