Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NBA. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Cavaliers fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.
We’re a week into the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ season. That means we have time to overreact to the few games we’ve seen so far.
We’ll start with something positive. Which Cavalier has been the most pleasant surprise so far?
Sam Merrill has had a phenomenal start to the season. He’s
improved his overall game and is knocking down over half of his three-point attempts. That’s not bad.
But Merrill isn’t alone. Tyrese Proctor has looked pretty competent for a rookie second-round pick. He provided good minutes in their season opener against the New York Knicks. Even though he hasn’t necessarily had a breakthrough performance yet, you can easily see how he could be a useful player even this season.
I would also throw De’Andre Hunter into this mix. He looks more comfortable in Kenny Atkinson’s system after being able to spend a full offseason with the team.
Now moving on to something a little more negative. What has been your biggest concern so far?
Rebounding was an issue in Cleveland’s first two games. They were beaten up on the boards by both New York and the Brooklyn Nets. The defense also looked suspect in both contests.
Meanwhile, the offense has looked good for stretches, but it hasn’t featured the same ball and player movement that we saw at the start of last season. Not having Darius Garland likely has a lot to do with that.
Let us know what you think about both of these questions in the survey below.
