The 2025 Western Michigan Broncos took the MAC by storm.
Western Michigan overcame an 0-3 start in non-conference play and rattled off a 7-1 conference record to qualify for the MAC Championship Game. In Detroit, the Broncos seized the opportunity and knocked off Miami (OH) 23-13 for their first MAC title since 2016. Western Michigan further sweetened the deal by hammering Conference USA champion Kennesaw State 41-6 in the Myrtle Beach Bowl, producing a final record of 10-4.
Now, one of the architects
responsible for Western Michigan’s second-winningest season in school history is running it back. Quarterback Broc Lowry and the football program announced on their social media accounts that Lowry is remaining in Kalamazoo for 2026.
Lowry won MAC Offensive Player of the Year honors in his first year as a starting quarterback. Once Western Michigan moved Lowry into a first-string role in late September, he generated a 10-1 record. As a passer, he fired for 1,803 yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions on a 63.4 completion rate. As a rusher, Lowry amassed 963 yards (sixth among FBS quarterbacks) and 14 touchdowns (tied for 20th among all FBS players).
Lowry caught fire as a runner during the second half of the regular season, eclipsing 80 rushing yards in seven-straight games. He set season-highs in passing yards (241), passing touchdowns (2), completion percentage (85.2), rushing yards (108), and rushing average (8.3) all in a 42-0 shutout of Ball State on Oct. 11.
In 2025, Lowry held status as a redshirt sophomore. He onboarded at Indiana in 2023 and completed one pass in limited action. The Canfield, OH native then transferred to Western Michigan and served one season as the backup to Hayden Wolff, occasionally checking in for run-oriented packages. Lowry spent the first three games in a two-quarterback system alongside Brady Jones this year, before taking the starter role in Week 4 vs. Toledo — a game where he punched in a last-minute touchdown and recorded the ensuing game-winning two-point conversion.
The First Team All-MAC quarterback retains two years of eligibility as he prepares for his second season as Western Michigan’s primary starter. He is responsible for the only season in program history featuring both a MAC championship and bowl win, and Lowry looks to replicate that feat in 2026.
