This is the first edition of Mountain West Basketball Team of the Week. Every week, I will be naming a team that performed the best throughout the week.
This week, Nevada did a difficult thing and went
on the road twice and came out with two victories.
For the final game of 2025, the Wolf Pack traveled to Fort Collins to take on a 9-3 Colorado State team. Nevada set the tone early with great defense, forcing the Rams to shoot just 37% from the field. Guard Tyler Rolison sparked Nevada’s offense, scoring 21 points and shooting 6-of-9 from the field. He also added five rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
Moby Arena is a tough venue to play in for the Mountain West conference, and Nevada was able to control the momentum in the game from start to finish.
The second win came against Fresno State on Saturday. The Wolf Pack didn’t have the best offensive night and found themselves in a one-possession game deep into the final minutes of the game. Rolison drove down the baseline and scored off the glass to give Nevada the lead with 10 seconds remaining. The Bulldogs couldn’t even get a shot off on the other end, as Nevada walked away with a road victory.
A key to the Wolf Pack’s successful week was Rolison. He hadn’t scored double-digit points since Nov. 8, but that changed this week. He averaged 18.5 points in his two games, along with two assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game.
What made Nevada’s week impressive was the difference in how the two wins were earned. In Fort Collins, the Wolf Pack relied heavily on defense, while the win in Fresno relied heavily on late-game execution.
The Wolf Pack cemented itself as a team to look out for. Winning two games on the road is a big deal and a great way to start conference play.
