In just her second year as head coach at Virginia Tech, Megan Duffy has the Hokies headed to the NCAA Tournament. After missing March Madness last season, the Hokies finished the 2025-26 season with a 23-9 record, including a 12-6 mark in ACC and are dancing again.
The Hokies are the No. 9 seed in the Fort Worth bracket, where they’ll face No. 8 Oregon on Friday in Austin, Texas. The Ducks represent the Big Ten and finished the year with a 22-12 record, including an 8-10 conference record. Oregon has
four players averaging in double figures, led by 5-foot-11 sophomore guard Katie Fiso, who averages over 15 points per game.
Tech could have some issues with Oregon’s frontcourt. Mia Jacobs, a 6-foot-2 forward, averages 12.6 points and five rebounds per game, while 6-foot-0 forward Ehis Etute averages 12.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
The Hokies are led by 6-foot-0 junior guard Carleigh Wenzel, who averages 15.3 points per game and 6-foot-2 junior forward Carys Baker. Baker averages 14 points and seven rebounds per game.
If Virginia Tech can get by Oregon, it will face No. 1-seeded Texas on its home floor. If Tech can get by the Longhorns, then we could have some real intrigue. On the same side of the bracket is the fifth-seeded Kentucky Wildcats, coached by you know who. That’s right, if everything aligns perfectly, we could see a Virginia Tech-Kentucky matchup in the Sweet 16. Of course, the road there will would be very difficult, but not impossible.
Kentucky faces James Madison in the first round and either Miami (Ohio) or West Virginia in the second round.
Here’s the full bracket.
Good luck to the Lady Hokies this week.
