Happy Sunday, Sox fans! With no Bears game this Sunday afternoon, it should be wide-open for some White Sox baseball as they take on AL Central-best Detroit Tigers. After taking the first game of this series with a crooked number on the board, the team got shut out yesterday afternoon against Tarik Skubal. Chicago looks to bounce back this afternoon with Davis Martin on the mound against Charlie Morton, to grab the series win on the road and continue an impressive stretch. Oh yeah, and it is officially
their last game of 17 games with no day off, so the team will get a much-needed break after today.
Davis Martin is 6-9 with a 4.06 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. As of late his ERA has slowly been creeping down to the 3’s, as he has put together a nice year on the mound. His last outing was against the Minnesota Twins, where he picked up the win and allowed six hits, three runs, and four strikeouts.
Morton is 9-10 this year for the Tigers with a 5.51 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. If there was any pitcher on the Tigers to hit off of, it would be him. The 41-year-old veteran righty was traded to the Tigers from the Baltimore Orioles at the trade deadline, and immediately added to their rotation. His last few outings haven’t been the best, especially last time out against the New York Mets when Morton went just 3 2/3 IP with five hits, six runs, four walks, and three strikeouts.
Mike Tauchman leads it off, followed by Kyle Teel and Lenyn Sosa. Will Colson Montgomery continue chasing the team lead in homers by adding another today? Will Andrew Benintendi continue his hot streak? Curtis Mead and Will Robertson follow, and Brooks Baldwin and Chase Meidroth close it out.
Game time is at 12:40 p.m. CT. Watch on CHSN and listen on ESPN 1000.
