Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Ravens fans and fans across the country.
The Ravens are in an increasingly precarious position. Lamar Jackson is headed to injured reserve for thumb surgery that could end his season – and who knows when there will be any clarity on his potential return? Tyler Huntley is likely out for the year with turf toe, leaving the 4-4 Ravens to start undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano for the foreseeable
future.
Until Wednesday, when Eric DeCosta laid the foundation to acquire Jacoby Brissett from the Cardinals. Once finalized, the Ravens will have a new starter who has a better chance of keeping them in playoff contention.
But how much better? Can the Ravens score enough points with Brissett under center to overcome an underperforming defense? Right now, that does not seem likely, leaving DeCosta with a series of tough decisions. He has already bought a center and a quarterback, but it may not make sense to invest even more draft capital into this season. But a surprising win against the Jaguars on Thursday night could inspire him to double down and roll the dice on Jackson returning for a playoff run. (History tells us that would be an unwise bet.)
DeCosta should already be considering selling at the deadline, and a defeat on Thursday may push him further in that direction. Moving veteran players could recoup crucial draft capital heading into (another) offseason roster retool. For players on expiring deals, the Ravens will have to weigh the offers they receive against the potential for compensatory picks in 2028.
So how should DeCosta approach the deadline? He’s already bought a quarterback – is there room for more? Or should he stand pat and maybe even sell players with an eye on the future? Vote in this week’s survey and share your thoughts in the comments section below!
