Through the summer, we will be counting down the Jets roster player by player. We continue the series by discussing Omar Cooper.
Name: Omar Cooper
Number: 83
Year With Jets: 1st
Projected Role: Starting wide receiver
His 2025: Cooper came from off the radar to play himself into first round discussion with a 69 catch, 937 yard, 13 touchdown season for the National Champion Indiana Hoosiers.
In the lead up to the NFL Draft, there was a lot of buzz about the Jets being very interested in Cooper. The team
eventually traded up from an early second round pick to grab Cooper with the 30th selection.
2026 will be a success if: Cooper posts between 500 and 600 yards.
Why do I say that? I took a look at wide receivers picked between 25 and 35 over the last decade. The median wide receiver from that group posted in the rage of 550 yards. Ten of the sixteen posted between 497 and 638 yards. So if Cooper is somewhere in that neighborhood, he will be on track. If he goes higher, it will be considered a very good sign. If he’s lower it might be a red flag.
While 500-600 yards doesn’t sound super exciting on paper, it would at least give Garrett Wilson a viable sidekick, something he has lacked his entire career other than the three quarters of a season he played with Davante Adams.
Odds of making the roster: Lock (>99%)
