Spain boss Luis de la Fuente says he expects Lamine Yamal to be in “perfect shape” for World Cup 2026 and believes he will be ready for their first game against Cape Verde on June 15th.
Yamal missed the end of the season with a hamstring injury and there’s been speculation he won’t be risked in Spain’s early group games this summer.
De la Fuente has offered an update on the youngster after he joined up with the squad for the World Cup and is in confident mood.
“First of all, we believe he’ll arrive
in good condition. We’re in constant communication with the clubs, who keep us updated on his progress daily,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“We know he’ll be in perfect shape, and I’d even venture to say he’ll be ready for the first match, but we’ll continue to monitor his progress.”
The Spain boss also spoke about how Yamal can prepare for his first ever appearance at a World Cup.
“He simply needs to be aware of what he has in his hands, his feet, and his heart. And show the world the kind of footballer he is.
“He needs to remain consistent, keep improving, keep working harder and taking better care of himself, even though he already does.
“But the demands of the highest level will require even more from him, and he’s ready to do it. We’ll give him the space he needs, the information he requires, and we’ll support him through all the challenges ahead.”
Spain play two friendlies before the start of the World Cup. La Roja take on Iraq on Thursday and then head to Mexico for a final warm-up game against Peru.
