This week, we’re getting a new set of college football rankings as we continue through the 2025 season, and these ones do matter a bit. Now, there’s still plenty of season left, so a team’s ranking in this
coming Tuesday’s College Football Playoff rankings doesn’t actually mean all that much come the end of the season. There are plenty of instances, since this whole process began, of teams rising and falling down the stretch. Tomorrow, though, we will get at least a preview of what the picture looks like with a little more than a month left in the season. Hey, UNC even won this week, so maybe they could go on a run late in the season! (Probably not.)
Until then, we still have the AP Rankings as a tentpole. Here’s a look at where things landed in this week’s Top 25.

Where is UNC?
Despite getting back in the win column against Syracuse, the Tar Heels are nowhere near the Top 25, nor should they be.
Biggest Winners
In the 12-team playoff era, losing two games is hardly a death sentence, and the three teams that were this week’s biggest risers prove that. Oklahoma (now #11), Texas (now #13), and Utah (now #17) tied for the biggest jump of the week, each moving up seven spots thanks to impressive wins of various sorts.
Biggest Losers
Tennessee was on the flipside of a loss to Oklahoma, and as a result fell a week-high nine places. A bigger deal is that with their third loss, they might’ve taken themselves out of playoff contention. Speaking of taking yourself out of playing contention, Miami took another semi-dumb loss over the weekend and may have also knocked themselves out, falling eight AP Poll spots.
