Most people think that Mike Krzyzewski is the G.O.A.T. of college basketball coaches, and for good reason: he won 1,202 games in his career and five national championships. He also won 101 NCAA tournament
games, thirteen regionals and 15 ACC Tournaments. You could make an argument for John Wooden, but Wooden didn’t have to negotiate a 68-team field in the NCAA tournament, much less all the other stuff, like the one-and-done era, instant transfers and now paying players. Coach K adapted and thrived through all of that.
As great as his record is though, his strongest point is probably his ability to communicate and motivate. No one has ever come close to him in that regard.
He’s been retired for several years now, but he’s lost none of his ability to get his point across, and a new ad shows just how good he is at it.
This ad is from Nike and it’s about Coach K’s former player, Jayson Tatum, as he rehabs from his Achilles injury.
If you’re a fan, this ad is really great. It might send chills down your spine.
But if you’re Jayson Tatum, it’s going to make you want to work that much harder.
Years ago, a psychologist was talking about Duke hiring a sports psychologist. There’s no need, he said. They couldn’t do better.
Watch this ad and you’ll understand why he said that.
