After a relatively successful international break, Bayern Munich’s players are now back in Munich as they prepare for the first game back in the Bundesliga. Their exploits lead them to Augsburg, a club performing remarkably well given their size and status amongst the big clubs.
The Bavarians sit second at the time of writing while their neighbors sit in fourth place. Augsburg cost the Rekordmeister from being an “invincible” team in the previous Bundesliga season, which will surely add motivation
for Bayern’s players.

Team news
As hinted by Bayern coach Vincent Kompany in a recent press conference, the supposed starting XI will be a near-full strength one, save for certain players still unavailable for selection (via Bild as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia):
There will be no significant rotation against Augsburg tomorrow, as hinted by Vincent Kompany in the press conference. Serge Gnabry is likely to replace the injured Jamal Musiala at the #10 position. A fully rested Luis Díaz is set to start, with Michael Olise starting at the opposing wing. Alphonso Davies, who didn’t play for Canada and spent the international break on honeymoon, will retain his place in the starting lineup at left-back. Kimmich and Pavlović are set to start in midfield – with Manuel Neuer starting in goal following a 3-week rest.
That said, here’s what the team could look like against Augsburg:
Lineup changes:
- IN: Konrad Laimer, Ismael Saibari
- OUT: Josip Stanišić, Jamal Musiala
Three things to know
- Jamal Musiala is still working himself back to full fitness. Serge Gnabry is a possible candidate to start at the 10.
- Bayern has not gone behind in any league match this season so far, a feat only shared with Liam Rosenior’s Paris FC (via Bayern’s official website).
- Augsburg has not lost a home match since March 2026, a 5-2 defeat to VfB Stuttgart (via Bayern’s official website).
Prediction
Bayern wins 4-0. Bayern will romp to victory with a team operating at 70%, and it is as easy as it gets. Harry Kane will score twice, while Luis Díaz and Serge Gnabry will get one each.
