Here at Mavs Moneyball, we spend some of the offseason thinking up new ideas for features we can bring to our readers for the upcoming season. Our latest brainchild isn’t necessarily novel, but it’s new to our site. Having a great group of readers who frequent our comments section led us to believe a Mailbag feature would be a great way to give you an opportunity to direct the narrative.
How it will work
There are many ways we can carve this turkey, and we will likely refine our approach as we go. From the outset,
we’re aiming to keep it as straightforward as possible. I will open a post in The Feed, aptly titled “Moneyball Mailbag,” where you can pose your question – use this Feed post to just drop in a question, or questions (in which case just make a separate post for each question). We will then incorporate the questions into a proper article where they will be answered. This in turn will allow for further discussion in that article’s comment section. It remains to-be-decided if we will close the post in The Feed after we’ve selected some questions and re-open a fresh one for each Mailbag article, or if we’ll just keep the single post from The Feed rolling in perpetuity.
Here are the rules
There really are no rules, per se. The whole objective is to give our readers a chance to direct discussions beyond what they can do in the comment section of a given article. Obviously, be appropriate and professional and try to keep the questions short and sweet so we can touch on a few at a time. Putting it simply – let’s talk Mavericks and basketball in general!
Types of questions that work well
Deep dives into the nuances of the Second Apron are going to be a little trickier to address alongside various other questions, but trade ideas, thoughts on how Dusty May approaches the lineup, controversial calls at the end of a game, postgame comments, etc. are all great. The whole idea is to discuss the Mavericks in a new and engaging way. Some ideas include:
- What do you think is a realistic expectation for Kyrie Irving this season, in terms of games played and overall performance?
- Which player do you think is most likely to be traded and why?
- How do you anticipate the new Draft rules will affect both the Mavericks and the league at large?
- What do you make of Mark Cuban’s social media post regarding his feelings on Patrick Dumont?
We hope you’ll join us! Make your voice heard by letting us know what you would like to talk about, and we will do our best to answer as many questions as possible. Depending on demand, I expect we will do as few as one per month and as many as one per week. We look forward to hearing your questions.
I invite you to follow me @_80MPH on X, and check back often at Mavs Moneyball for all the latest on the Dallas Mavericks.
