Daniel Peretz’s loan spell at Hamburg SV has not quite gone according to plan since he left Bayern Munich for the fellow Bundesliga club. The whole reason the keeper wanted to do a loan spell away from the German Rekordmeister was to get in a situation where he could get far more playing time than he was behind Manuel Neuer, Jonas Urbig, and Sven Ulreich at Bayern. However, ever since he’s been with Hamburg SV on loan, Peretz has yet to make an appearance in either the Bundesliga or DFB-Pokal for the club that’s
finally back in the German top flight after a multi-season hiatus.
As things stand, HSV manager Merlin Polzin has showed a preference to play Daniel Fernandes as his starting keeper, and the Portuguese keeper has started and played every minute of every match for Hamburg SV so far this season, which has caused a great deal of frustration for Peretz. The Israeli international’s loan spell runs through the remainder of this season, but the current predicament he finds himself in with a severe lack of playing time could prompt something to happen prior to the end of this season.
Per information from Israeli outlet Sport5 (via @iMiaSanMia), Peretz himself confirmed that it’s entirely possible that his loan with Hamburg SV could get terminated as early as this January. “It’s obvious that I’m disappointed I’m not playing in Hamburg. I didn’t expect that I wouldn’t be playing. It was actually clear that I would play. I’m fighting the situation. Maybe there will be a change in January, because I really want to play,” he explained.
A lot can certainly happen between now and the January transfer window, but for either Bayern or HSV, he is still considered to be a backup keeper. If Fernandes picks up some sort of injury for HSV, Peretz could be called upon, but windows for opportunity would be few and far between if he were to make a premature return to Bayern having to compete with the likes of Neuer, Urbig, and Ulreich. Hopefully for Peretz, a better solution is able to be found, otherwise he is in jeopardy of hardly playing any football this season.
