For someone who carries just one year of organized football under his belt, 2027 three-star edge rusher Ifeanyi Emedobi has the recruiting world at the palm of his hands heading into official visit season.
The raw talent combined with eye-0pening measurables that turned Emedobi from a high school student who was still learning the game to now becoming a legit Power 4 prospect. Last Sunday was a microcosm of his potential when he attended the Under Armour NEXT All-American Camp in Chicago and won MVP
among all participating defensive linemen.
“I came into the camp feeling like I deserved to be MVP,” Emedobi told Maize n Brew. “I really wanted MVP because it was going to make it all worthwhile so I just put everything on the line.”
At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, Emedobi heads into June with a verified 4.48 40-yard dash, 37.7 inch vertical, 126-inch broad jump, 81-inch wingspan and 11-inch hands. That’s a long ways from November when he received his first FBS offer. Now, he’s cut his list down to four schools, with Michigan a strong contender.
“It’s been fun getting better everyday,” Emedobi said. “Love it. I just this. It’s been amazing.”
The Wolverines will battle Minnesota, Indiana and Penn State for the pass rusher out of Fort Wayne (Ind.) Northrop who ranks inside the Top 300 nationally in the 2027 recruiting class, per Rivals. He’ll head to Ann Arbor on June 19-21 during Victor’s Weekend.
“I’m really about development on-and-off the field,” Emedobi said. “I know every school will develop me, but I’m just looking for the best fit where I can be the best player I can possibly be. (On the official visits), I’ll be looking at how the staff runs things. It’s not about the facilities, it’s who’s in the facilities.”
Emedobi announced the visit a little more than two weeks after Michigan assistant defensive line coach David Denham went to Indiana to meet with him and extend the offer.
“They put their best foot forward to recruit me, even though they were late in the game,” Emedobi said. “They’ve shown me love and kept it real with me.”
Not too long after Denham saw Emedobi, defensive ends coach Lewis Powell embarked on the same trip the following week. Emedobi looks forward to being alongside both on campus for the first time.
“Coach D is a cool guy, really cool,” Emedobi said. “Really energetic. Coach Powell, he’s more like stern, but chill, but not too chill (laughs). I’ve only seen them twice in person so it’ll be excited to see them on the OV and where they’re in their own environment and how they run things.”
Aside from Emedobi’s immense growth in a such a small window, his versatility on the line of scrimmage also intrigues Michigan. In the fall, Emedobi recorded 55 tackles, including 21 for a loss, and 6.5 sacks.
“They run multiple defenses, so there are multiple chances to get on the field,” Emedobi said. “Multiple chances to make a play. They said my ceiling is high because I just started and that they can put a few pounds on me, so I’m excited to see in a few years wherever I go to.”
Emedobi plans to announce his commitment a week after the official visit.
“Coach D went a little bit about how Michigan can set you up for after football, so I’m excited to learn more about that on the OV,” Emedobi said.
