Indiana men’s basketball has put up totals of 23, 27 and 23 assists in its first three games under head coach Darian DeVries. On a related note, the Hoosiers have scored 98, 100 and 101 points in those
games.
Sharing the basketball has been a point of emphasis for the program under DeVries, who arrived this past offseason and entirely rebuilt the roster. He sought out pieces that fit rather than raw talent, something that’s paid dividends as his team has found some quick chemistry early in the 2025-26 season.
He was asked about that offense after Indiana’s 101-70 win over Milwaukee on Wednesday night at Assembly Hall. It comes back to that passing, he said.
“They just share the ball,” DeVries said. “I think that’s what good offense comes from, you know, guys that are willing to move it, share it. We got great balance. One night it could be this guy, one night the next guy.”
It was two guys on Wednesday: Tayton Conerway and Lamar Wilkerson. Conerway put 21 points on the board with some crafty finishes around the rim while dishing out a team-leading six assists and Wilkerson went a blistering 5/6 from long range en route to leading the Hoosiers with 24 points.
If Indiana’s going to keep passing the ball like this, the Hoosiers are going to be tough to guard. The Hoosiers have already poured 100 points on a high-major foe on a neutral floor in just their second game. It’ll be interesting to see if they’re able to develop even more chemistry as the season goes on.
