Bayern not giving up on Simons (The Hard Tackle)
The transfer saga of Xavi Simons has been a wild one this summer.
For a month, it has been assumed that the RB Leipzig attacker would easily ink a deal with Chelsea, but that has not happened. Because of that, Bayern Munich and Manchester City are still lingering on the periphery:
RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons is reportedly keen to join Chelsea in the summer transfer window. According to Fabrizio Romano via X, Xavi Simons has made Chelsea his clear priority this summer, even as links with Bayern Munich
and Manchester City continue to swirl. The 22-year-old Dutch playmaker has reportedly told RB Leipzig that Stamford Bridge is the only destination he is focused on, with negotiations now hinging on Chelsea completing player sales before making their move.
Despite Xavi Simons’s preference, Bayern Munich and Manchester City are closely monitoring developments. Bayern view him as a natural successor to Kingsley Coman, who has joined Al-Nassr. Meanwhile, Manchester City could make their move if Tottenham secure the signing of Savinho, leaving Pep Guardiola in need of a new attacking option.
Bayern Munich still has several irons in the fire for its attack, but each of them has a significant hurdle to overcome. Simons? Christopher Nkunku? Nick Woltemade? All three? Two of the three? None?
Who knows at this point, but the Bavarians are running out of time to find a player to help fill the void left by Jamal Musiala’s injury.
Chelsea shot down on Bastoni pursuit (ESPN)
Chelsea did not have any luck trying to pry Alessandro Bastoni away from Inter Milan:
Chelsea have had an offer of €50 million for Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni rejected, La Gazzetta Dello Sport reports. The Blues are still in the market for a center back this summer after Levi Colwill suffered an ACL injury. They had hoped to bolster their options with the arrival of Italy international Bastoni, but the offer was “politely declined.”

City still wants Rodrygo (ESPN)
Manchester City might still be thinking about a move for Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo:
Real Madrid winger Rodrygo remains Manchester City’s top target if Savinho joins Tottenham Hotspur this month, Fabrizio Romano reports. City are willing to try to sign the Brazil international, having prioritized him over the likes of Xavi Simons and Maghnes Akliouche, as they will be short in wide areas if 21-year-old Savinho leaves the club, as many are predicting. Savinho is reported to be keen on joining Spurs this summer, and the club is expected to return with a second offer later this week. While City initially closed the door to the transfer, it is believed that an improved proposal could soften their stance.
