There are plenty of things that I enjoy, probably none more than sports. Being involved in them throughout the year growing up made me appreciate everything. From football in the fall, to basketball in the winter, to track and field in the spring and baseball in the summer. I can honestly say that there was probably a grand total of 3 weeks where I wasn’t practicing or playing in a sport throughout the year.
Just over a simple half-a-lifetime later, I participate in golf…and now trying to get back
in shape. I can hear my 18-year-old self laughing at me and calling me names. I don’t run for fun, I don’t understand people who do, but I do run to clear my head. Sometimes, I enjoy cussing at myself, taunting current me with the voice of the 18-year-old that once existed. Yes, I clear my head through motivation of the more athletic me. Now matter how hard I try; I still can’t escape the “sports” me.
My wife has never fully grasped why I’m wired this way. She never knows how I can always go from the highs and lows from one sport to another on a daily basis. I then tell her, think of it the way you care about USA gymnastics, but do it for football, basketball, baseball, hockey and soccer. Then do it for EVERY SINGLE DAY. That’s how you can appreciate living life to the fullest with emotions. That’s why I love covering sports now. Here are your flakes…
